This sample board, just like the walls that were finished in this style, has an overall, consistent value (value is the measurement of lightness to darkness) when viewed from straight on but is constructed out of multiple translucent layers that change considerably when viewed from different angles. This effect can be achieved in an infinite range of colors, in this case shifting from a noticeable yellowish/green to a deep/rich brown with a hint of a dark green/black towards the horizon.
